Studio Visit is a unique exhibition featuring both the works and studio practice of Chicago-based artists Stephen Eichhorn, Cody Hudson, and Chad Kouri, curated by Purdue MFA candidate Garet Martin at Purdue University’s Patti and Rusty Rueff West Gallery. The exhibition will conclude with an evening lecture by the artists, as presented through generous support from the Dr. Barbara Walker Visiting Artist Series.

On Display: January 30th - February 17th, 2012

Chicago artist Stephen Eichhorn creates delicate hand-cut paper collages from photos of foliage—palm fronds, grasses, leaves and flowers. Quiet and poetic, Eichhorn’s work radiates a complex harmony between the natural and handmade world. Eichhorn’s new work has on black backgrounds creates a floating image in cosmic space. Though complexly layered and intuitively organized, the work exudes a simple elegance. Eichhorn’s floral arrangements suggest an underlying structural rhythm to growth, adaptation and accumulation.

The painstaking and delicate method Eichhorn uses to make his pieces mirrors the natural process of fertilization, evolution and exuberant proliferation. Eichhorn’s new work begins to loosen his collage style, reducing or abandoning framework and creating draping compositions. The work embodies the delicate architecture of orchid petals and his larger free-form installations take on the appearance of blankets quilted from Japanese maple leaves.

Mail Nothing to the Tate Modern

I'm participating in this project at the Tate Modern in London.
Just mailed anempty box out yesterday, you can track it along with the other artist packages HERE.

All received mailings will be exhibited unopened May 14-16 in the
Turbine Hall at the Tate Modern.

From the site:
"By locating these packages (all with various points of departure and the same location of arrival) at various moments in their transit, one can grasp a mental picture of the vast global infrastructure of shipping - a breathing system of objects in continuous movement. The packages being sent to the Tate Modern, declared to contain "nothing" on their customs-forms as they cross international borders, generate the data of travel with tracking technologies. This data becomes a trace - a trace of nothing (or, of something empty). Mail carriers claim these tracking numbers (and the data) as their legal property, which we are appropriating and exhibiting in this project."

All received mailings will be photographed and posted online.

NEW YORK: Harold Arts (Chicago) is pleased to announce their first trip to New York, in an effort to raise awareness and funds in support of the 2010 Artist-in-Residency program taking place this July and August. For one night only, Harold Arts presents works by former residents and colleagues in a silent auction, complimented by the sounds of Matt Bauderand Jeff Kimmel, for one night only at Chelsea's SALT gallery.

The Harold Arts Residency Program is a unique opportunity for emerging and mid-career artists and musicians to work alongside their contemporaries in a pastoral environment. Located on a tree farm in Chesterhill, Ohio, their fifth annual program offers self-directed residencies with a strong emphasis on collaboration across artistic disciplines. New to the 2010 program are two sessions led in partnership with DFLuxand threewalls, designed to for artists interested in grappling with questions of context, specifically on the tree farm and within the surrounding Appalachian community.

The Harold Arts Residency Program lays a foundation for projects to be deployed throughout the year. Upcoming curatorial projects include Chicago's NEXT art fair, Nathan Bakerand Irena Knezevic@ Heaven Gallery, and a few top secret initiatives brewing in Ohio. Our recording studio (constructed in a reclaimed indoor swimming pool) will host the projects of independent labels Captcha Records, Vosotros, and Sundmagi Records, while a resident recording engineer and producer aid the efforts of musicians. Each Fall, we celebrate the efforts of our evolving collective through the Harvest Festival, a multimedia arts festival held at a variety of venues around Chicago. As always, Harold Arts aims to foster exchange and dialogue amongst innovative artists in providing a platform for the production and dissemination of new works.

Join us, and help support a burgeoning community of innovative visual artists, musicians and cultural producers.

GET IT TOGETHER AGAIN

“Get it Together Again,” is an exhibition of assemblage, collage, and collaborative work by local, national, and international artists. Organized by Chad Kouri of the Post Family and Ed Marszewski of Co-Prosperity Sphere, the exhibition includes over 25 works on paper, mixed media, and installations including a grocery store with hand drawn products made out of paper. Gallery visitors of all ages can sit down at a collage table and create their own work. Materials such as magazines, scissors and glue will be provided or bring your own.

I'll be showing some work in Rotterdam, opening this upcoming Friday!

Friday the 12th of March will be the 5th installment of the ongoing
Trendbeheer meets Proximity Rotterdam-Chicago exchange that started in 2008.

Ed & Rachael Marszewski will come to the SingerSweatShop to present the latest edition of their Proximity Magazine. The theme of this issue is (An)Other Art Worlds and features a 20 page Rotterdam special section. Besides the magazine they will bring an exhibition of work by artists featured in the publication. Works by: Emily Van Hoff, Dayton Castleman, Abby Christensen, Stephen Eichhorn, Aron Gent, Gunsho, Scott Fortino, Joseph Rynkiewicz, Anna Shteynshleyger, Tom Torluemke, and The Yes Men.

Ed & Rachael Marszewski (Chicago) are the main organisers behind the annual Version & Select Media festivals, Lumpen & Proximity magazines and the Co-Prosperity Sphere exhibition space. They are always looking for artists to include in their many projects so tonight will also be a great opportunity to meet with them and start making things happen!

Trendbeheer.com is the biggest internet magazine about art and visual culture in the Netherlands. Besides a daily dose of news, curated content and exhibition reports Trendbeheer is also active in the real world as an exhibition platform.
